Happy Saturday my lovelies!
Thank you ahead of time for all your lovely submissions to Healthy Vegan Friday this week! I’ve already spent more time than I should drooling over the submissions and I know selecting favourites is going to be really difficult again this week. If you haven’t yet, head over to Healthy Vegan Friday #4 and browse the recipes and submit one or two of your own! You have until Tuesday to do so!
So for this week’s reading nook I was feeling a little more visual than usual. I was drawn to bright graphics and pictures as opposed to words and articles. Naturally this meant I was browsing Pinterest a whole ton and I decided I would share some of those finds this week! Isn’t it funny how many great reads and informative posts you can find by browsing pictures on Pinterest? I love it! Plus is just cheers me up- looking at all the pretty pictures reminds me that certain parts of life are still simple and beautiful even though other things are scary and uncertain.
DIY dry shampoo! I’ve been trying to reduce the number of times I wash my hair in a week which has left me feeling gross and icky more often than not. So I was thrilled to find this post at Vegan Beauty Review made from such simple ingredients! I mixed some up in an old spice jar which makes it super easy to sprinkle.
Another beauty remedy- this is a turmeric face mask from Henry Happened. Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory and is high in anti-oxidants so would be great for healing and restoring delicate face skin. Can’t wait to make this on my next day off (don’t want to go outside with a yellow face!).

This post at Cauldron and Cupcakes is such an important reminder. All about how sometimes doing nothing is the best thing you can do for yourself. While it can feel like you are wasting time and should be productive, doing nothing IS productive. We all need rest and time to restore ourselves.
I need a juicer STAT so I can make this Iced Carrot “Latte” from brave lil’ juicer
with the prospect of moving to an apartment with a small kitchen, this idea for an easy-to-access pan storage system is totally appealing.
and finally- it’s shark week so I must pay homage to these noble sea creatures! I really loved this piece because while they are painted as terrifying and threatening, as this article at Treehugger explains in the article “What Would Happen if Sharks Disappeared?”, they are much more valuable to us being around than gone. And really, it’s not their fault they’re the ultimate predator, so let’s be compassionate k?
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Super interested in trying the dry shampoo! :) Love it!
Just used it this morning, I love it too :)
I always color my handy when cooking with tumeric… I don’t know what a face mask would me like. Maybe it’s just me always making a mess ;)
Hehe same thing happens to me! Which is is why this face mask is for a day when you have no where else to be!
Oh Wow that turmeric mask sounds interesting, I would love to hear your experience with it once you try it!
And I love that Pan Storage Rack, what a great idea, I have to go and check that out :)
I’ll be sure to let you know! I got really busy yesterday so I didn’t get to try it! Hopefully soon though!
Oh I love the DIY beauty product ideas! Thanks for sharing – I’ll give them a go! :-)
Your welcome Bex :) Hope you like them!
I love the recipe as always and I agree sharks are just trying to make it in this world they were born predators but they still deserve to be on the planet
Totally! We are encroaching on their territory here, not their fault!
I’ve definitely struggled with giving myself permission to “do nothing” at this point in my life. Great read right there :)
I know what you mean. It’s way yoo easy to get caught up in always moving forward. Sometimes we need a reminder to just be present :)
Thank you for the DIY suggestions! I love to try at-home recipies!
As for Shark Week, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I have been watching it for a long time but I always hate when they have the “Are sharks hunting humans” episodes. Sharks are some of the most beautiful creatures on this planet (behind any cat species, but I’m biased :) ) and I hate that there is still the misconception that they hunt people. We are going into their territory when we swim in their waters and we cannot blame them for any ‘attacks’ on humans. It’s the same for tiger ‘attacks’ in India or elephant ‘attacks’ in Africa. We are encroaching on their territory. They were here first and are only doing what they have to to survive.
Okay, I’m off my soapbox now :) Thank you for the lovely post, as always, Gabby!
Love your comment and I completely agree with you! They are born to be predators, so if we are threatening them in some way, even if we don’t mean to, of course they are going to attack. We would do the same! You said it much more eloquently than I though :)
Hope you had a great weekend!
I love that point about productivity and doing nothing – it’s so hard to remember, but you’re spot on in that sometimes ‘nothing’ is the best thing of all!
I’m glad you agree! In today’s world it can be hard to relax- life is such a race to get ahead these days and we feel like we’ll get behind if we stop. But I find if I don’t stop sometimes I just end up unhappy and stressed which is no fun!
I actually tried turmeric in a face mask once, and it made me break out a bit! I can eat it ok, so maybe it was just a fluke. My favorite mask to do is just a mashed avocado. It leaves you so moisturized and plump! That chick’s site looks super cool though! I love DIY crafts that are easy and comparable to something expensive.
Oh no! That’s odd. I guess everyone’s skin is different right? I will give it a try! I loooove avocado and even banana as face masks too :) Pretty much any beauty remedy I can cook up in my kitchen is ok by me!
Isn’t it a great site? SO much helpful info!
DIY Dry shampoo! Yes! I’ve also been trying not to wash my hair as often, but I’ve just been having more ponytail days when my hair is too oily. I love this remedy! Thank you for passing it on! :-)
I have to wear my hair up for work, but I don’t really like to- as soon as I get home, down it comes! So dry shampoo is going to come in handy! I hope it works for you! I tried it today and it worked great for me :)
I love these roundup posts. I need to spend more time on pinterest. I forget it’s there but I know what you mean about all the beautiful photos.. I need to get the hang of it I think and start using it properly.
That dry shampoo sounds great. I don’t wash my hair that often as it’s quite dry anyway but a natural diy shampoo is a great idea for days when you don’t have time to wash it.
It’s hard moving to a smaller place with a small kitchen. Only suitable for one person really. Are you sharing your new place with anyone?
Haha Pinterest is such a time such- I honestly loose so much time just browsing pretty things on there. But I suppose it makes me happy so it can’t be so bad right?
My hair isn’t usually to bad, but I got in a really bad habit of washing it everyday after I worked out so it’s producing more oil than it used to. Slowly getting better though and this dry shampoo will help! I used it today and it works great!
Yes it’s going to be a muuuuuch smaller kitchen and I’ll be sharing it with my roommate. Oh well we will make it work. I already know my dehydrator will have to be kept in my room :S The apartment is just over all smaller so it’s to be expected!
Have a great weekend!
Haha this post was awesome but what really drew me in was that polar bear photo :D
Cheers

Haha isn’t it great? Check out Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy’s comment for more infor on the source if you’re interested!
I totally need the pan/dish storage. It gets old taking everything out for one pan – then everything back in.
I know, it’s terrible. Plus is created so much noise!
what great links! I love that organization system for the pots and pans! SO clever! and I love that photo of the polar bears. Thomas Mangleson is the photographer — that photo is called “The Bad Boys of the Arctic” — totally random that I know that, I know – but he’s my favorite artist and he has a gallery near where we ski every year – we always visit when we go:) Hope you’re having a great weekend!
I know right? So simple yet I never would have thought of it!
That’s so cool about the photos of the bears! I absolutely love it! I’m glad I actually know the source and name now :) So thank you!
Have a lovely weekend yourself!
I love your reading nook posts! I’m a visual person too and obviously a total Pinterest freak so I can appreciate where you are coming from. That dry shampoo is so cool and I’d love to hear how the turmeric face mask works out! That carrot latte is beautiful and delicious I’m sure! You are so right, people overlook the greater purpose animals serve in the ecosystem (spiders come to mind too) so hopefully some education will help!
Hope you have a great weekend Gabby! Thanks again for your support, you are such a sweetheart.
Thanks Sarah! I’m glad you’re liking them! I figure when other bloggers do it, I love it, so why not try out my own version?
I’ll hopefully do that face mask tomorrow so I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes!
You too Sarah! I hope you cheer up! And it’s no problem, I’m always here for ya!
