Hello everyone! Wow, it’s been so long since we all chatted! Life once again got in the way of blogging, I’ve just been so busy and living life became the priority. Well that and school and work ;) But I’m here today, with a little bit of a random post to show you all what I’ve been up to and what you can expect to see coming up on the blog!

Just a little update on my life- the 2 courses I’ve been taking for the last month are winding down and exams are coming up in the next 2 days. It’s a super fast-paced environment here- I can’t believe they’re already done and that I start 2 new ones following Thanksgiving. Going home for the weekend will be such a nice change from the busy life I’ve been leading here! I’m even planning a pretty delicious pumpkin dessert that you’ll definitely hear about should all go well!

Now, a What I Ate Wednesday- what I’ve been eating in Toronto!

P.S. Thanks Jenn for hosting :)

First up, 2 food swaps!

The lovely Alexia and I decided to exchange foodie finds all the way between Austria and Canada and she sent just the most amazing things! Pumpkin seed oil and pomegranate vinegar were serious highlights as were the probiotic coconut chocolate bar, the curry powder and her homemade pumpkin seed bites. Thanks Alexia! :)

Next up, a little birthday exchange between myself and Sarah! With birthdays less than a week apart, we decided it would be really fun to send each other some birthday presents! Everything was/is amazing including the Go Raw flax crackers, chocolate covered cacao nibs, banana chips, and the green tea! Even an owl mug- 2 of my favourite things in one! Thank you, thank you!

Now some recipe teasers!

And finally, a few more foodie finds!

Breakfast of champions! Sprouted grain bread with bananas and Bee Free Honee (thanks for the lovely giveaway Barb!) and some rice Bio-K+.

IMG_20120929_103756

This was my first time trying Bio-K+. This particular one is their fermented rice drink- it’s a great way to get in some probiotics and I found I really liked the tangy taste! Reminded me of a yogurt drink. It’s so important to promote good, healthful bacteria growth in your gut, particularly if you’ve ever taken antibiotics so check this out if you see it!

The Raw Sampler from Live Organic Food Bar. Oh lord the tostada and lasagna were amazing! Headed over there with Janet for a lovely dinner and I can’t wait to go back! Dessert was amazing too.

  1. SO JEALOUS of your foodie swap with Alexia – she’s so sweet! I LOVE the sound of that probiotic coconut bar… amazing, haven’t heard of anything like that before.

You KNOW I love a good maple/miso combination… looks like you have gone the sweeter route though – is that spread on fruit toast? I’m a big fan of the salty sweetie combo ;)

Wow, sounds like life has been hectic (but in a fun way) for you…. plus you need a lot of (delicious) fuel for all that study, no? Brain food!

    • Isn’t she? And so generous, I was spoiled! So cool to see what kind of products they have on a different continent too.

It definitely is a bit sweeter, perfect for toast/breakfast! Yes it absolutely is on fruit toast- cinnamon raisin! One of my treat things to buy every now and then. You’re so right- the sweet and salty combo has to be hands down one of the greatest!

Life is definitely hectic, but I’m enjoying it so I don’t mind. Just need to try and squeeze a little more sleep and cooking in and it will be even better! Because what is life without delicious food? I feel like I’m going to use the “brain food” idea as an excuse- no I can’t study, I need to make some study “fuel”! I’ll study tomorrow….haha oh no.

    • It’s very intense! Lots to learn crammed in such a short space! But I’m learning how to go about it which is good.

I know what you mean about craving cookies- raw cookie are so good for that! So much flavour with a litle nutrition in there ;)

  2. This post is so full of goodness Gabby. Such fun swaps! And restaurant adventures! I’ve eaten at Live 3 times – I adore their cocktails Mmmm :) Their kale chips are another favorite of mine… ooh the nachos were great too! I just love trying new restos.

    • Thanks Heather! I know, weren’t they? I was so spoiled! Live was delicious, I can’t wait to go back. Oh the nachos sound so good, and I was really intrigued by the poutine. Apparently they are changing the menu though so who knows what’s in store for us coming up ;)

  3. Looks great Gabby! I am happy to hear you are enjoying the fast paced life – and also looking forward to going home! Enjoy the break from busy life…isn’t it tough when living life gets in the way of blogging? I am so with you on this! It is a constant challenge :) X

    • I am definitely enjoying it! Although I do need to work on balance, but I’ve only been here a month so I’m sure that will come. Kingston will be a lovely break, although I think I’ll be busy there too!

I know, I miss blogging so much, and I’m so behind on reading blogs too! I miss everyone! Glad to hear I am not the only one who struggles with this :)

  4. Love it! Good luck with your exams and here’s a relaxing long weekend at home! I love that you went back to Belmonte Raw.. can’t wait to see what you have to say about that! :)

Also, I love that you have been out and about, enjoying fun things in Toronto!! :) I will live vicariously through you. :)

    • Thank you Janet :) I loved Belmonte Raw so much when we went, I am addicted to juice now, which is funny because I never had too many opportunities to have it before I moved here.

We will have to arrange for another outing soon :)

  5. Haha, I often laugh at the synchronicity of our posts. Your classes are going fast! I got my degree part online and part in-class, so I experienced some of what you’re talking about. It’s good because you get done faster, but it is a lot of freakin’ work! Can’t wait for the oatmeal raisin cookie recipe! :-)

  6. I can’t wait to hear more about this curious miso spread… Sounds like a combination so crazy that it must work! It must be a delicate balancing act to blend sweet, salty, savory, and nutty together harmoniously.

  7. Yay! I’m so glad you liked everything! I got myself an owl mug too because I couldn’t resist ;) Your food looks so amazing! I can’t wait to see your recipe for the maple miso tahini spread, that sounds so amazing! Do I spy it on raisin bread? All of your raw treats look so delicious and that’s so cool that you used the bee free honee! I just ordered some a few days ago for one of my recipe recreations! I can’t wait to try it! Love your instagram pic, that place sounds so cute and definitely like my kind of night just hanging out and playing board games!

Hope that you get a little time to rest and relax after this set of courses ends for you! Best of luck with your exams!
