veganism myths debunked

I never reblog things but I thought this graphic was too great not to share!

Veganism Myths Debunked

Just a quick note: I appear to be having issues with my email subscription service. It's not sending out emails and I can't figure out why! So for all of you who haven't received an update from me in a long time, I'm sorry :( I've tried switching what I use, so please let me know if you got an email today. I was using Jetpack for self-hosted WordPress blogs previously, so if anyone has any advice or knows of a good subscription service please let me know!

Check back here tomorrow for a review, 2 recipes and a giveaway!

**HAPPY DANCE**

  1. I got this email, but it seemed like I haven’t gotten one in awhile. I’ve been too swamped at work to efficiently keep up, but I am also using jetpack. I’ve had a couple complaints of the same thing, so if you find a better service, please let me know!

I saw this infographic before- it is astounding.

    • Yes thankfully it seems like my subscription service is fixed! I'm going to have to do a post that kind of sums up what I've been posting the last month- I feel like so many people missed so much!

Glad to see you here Kibby :) And yes I'm doing great, busy, but great!

  2. I’m not going to lie, I kind of want to make a t-shirt with this graphic so everyone can just stop asking me stupid questions. Ha! I am usually pretty patient with people but it’s getting to the point where I feel like people just talk a whole bunch of nonsense to try and show me that my choice is wrong. Meanwhile I never say a word about what they eat! I don’t understand why people are so concerned with what I eat. It has gotten really annoying so I’m going to have to save this :)

Oooh what a teaser for tomorrow, can’t wait to see what you have for us!

    • I know right? Sometimes I totally don't mind answering questions and teaching people, but it's all about the context!  You're right though, it's when people start attacking my choice that I'm like, "WHY do you CARE so much?". Haha oh well, such is the life of a vegan I supposed ;)

I hope you like what I have tomorrow!

  3. I got the email this time by pressing notify me of new posts at the bottom of the comment box! :)
And this article is so cool – the vegan mirage revealed!

    Cheers

  4. Gabby, I got this email! I subscribed before and got one email, then that was that. I hope the problem is fixed. I’m too scatterbrained to keep checking in like I ought to! I need reminders! :)

  5. This is very interesting Gabby. Yes when I wrote a blog about how vegans get their protein and calculated my own protein intake I realised that most vegans probably do get too much protein not too little and this is confirmed above again.
I’ve been hearing a lot of stories lately from people who have been vegan for a long time who have deficiencies so went back to eating animal based foods. I definitely think more research needs to be done and I guess we’re guinea pigs in a way.
It’s interesting that most vegans became vegans for ethical reasons too and even though there is a vegan community where I live, I struggle to find people who are as equally concerned about health as I am. I think in the previous place I lived, the raw food community were a bit more concerned about health, but with all these things people are very focused on staying within their ‘boxes’ and I don’t think all raw food or vegan food is healthy.
Anyway, there’s no such thing as the perfect diet and we’ve just got to do our best with what we’ve got available to us. I think being a vegan is one of the better options that are available to us though, and it’s definitely better for the animals and the planet.
    Thank you for sharing that.

    • Yes Katherine, I think people really overestimate just how much protein we need. We have been trained to think we need tons and that protein only exists in meat, but that is simply the animal product industry manipulating us! Anywhere from 10-15% is really all we need, maybe more if you’re an intense athlete.

You’re definitely right about all raw and vegan food not being healthy. Same with gluten-free! Looking at the labels on some products labelled as such makes me cringe. Sure, a raw/vegan/gluten-free version of something might be better for you on the basis that there is no dairy/egg/etc. in it, but that’s it! We still need to be diligent in looking for nutrients and vitamins and whole foods. I think veganism is a step in the right direction for a lot of things- doing well by animals, the planet, others and ourselves. There are just so many misconceptions I think people miss the point and focus on all the pitfalls. It’s unfortunate, but I suppose as a minority position it’s bound to happen.

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
