lemon raspberry quinoa pancakes: guest post at cooking quinoa! and vegan food swapping

IMG_2745

Today I’m really excited to share with you all another pancake recipe! Yes that’s right, I’ve had TWO pancakes successes recently! I think my relationship with pancakes might finally be changing!

These lemon raspberry quinoa pancakes don’t use any flour, rather used soaked whole quinoa grains to preserve maximum nutrition and make them easily digestible!

I bet you want the recipe, don’t you? Well then please make your way on over to Wendy’s blog, Cooking Quinoa!

And while you’re over there, wish her congratulations, she just welcomed a precious little girl, Skye to her family :)

And just before I go, I want to show off what I got in this month’s Vegan Food Swap!

2013-04-26 12.02.06

With all of my restrictions, Jessica had quite the task- no gluten, no refined sugar, no nightshades, etc. And she did amazing! Included was:

  • Giddy YoYo Vanilla Bean and Mountain Salt raw chocolate bar- my absolute favourite!
  • Nüd Food Carrot crackers- the person who started this company actually went to the same school as me which is pretty cool. These are raw and vegan but I can never justify buying them though so these were a treat! I’ve also had the Green Energy ones before which are great!
  • Higher Living Vitality Tea- a delicious herbal blend that I’ve been enjoying every night!

Thank you so much Jessica!

Now if you live in Canada and want to get involved in some vegan swapping, sign up at MeShell in Your City!

Now get on over to Cooking Quinoa for my pancake recipe!

I'm sharing these on Allergy-Free Wednesday.

wiaw- random foodie photos

Hello everyone! Wow, it’s been so long since we all chatted! Life once again got in the way of blogging, I’ve just been so busy and living life became the priority. Well that and school and work ;) But I’m here today, with a little bit of a random post to show you all what I’ve been up to and what you can expect to see coming up on the blog!

Just a little update on my life- the 2 courses I’ve been taking for the last month are winding down and exams are coming up in the next 2 days. It’s a super fast-paced environment here- I can’t believe they’re already done and that I start 2 new ones following Thanksgiving. Going home for the weekend will be such a nice change from the busy life I’ve been leading here! I’m even planning a pretty delicious pumpkin dessert that you’ll definitely hear about should all go well!

Now, a What I Ate Wednesday- what I’ve been eating in Toronto!

P.S. Thanks Jenn for hosting :)

First up, 2 food swaps!

The lovely Alexia and I decided to exchange foodie finds all the way between Austria and Canada and she sent just the most amazing things! Pumpkin seed oil and pomegranate vinegar were serious highlights as were the probiotic coconut chocolate bar, the curry powder and her homemade pumpkin seed bites. Thanks Alexia! :)

Next up, a little birthday exchange between myself and Sarah! With birthdays less than a week apart, we decided it would be really fun to send each other some birthday presents! Everything was/is amazing including the Go Raw flax crackers, chocolate covered cacao nibs, banana chips, and the green tea! Even an owl mug- 2 of my favourite things in one! Thank you, thank you!

Now some recipe teasers!

Breakfast of champions! Sprouted grain bread with bananas and Bee Free Honee (thanks for the lovely giveaway Barb!) and some rice Bio-K+.

IMG_20120929_103756

This was my first time trying Bio-K+. This particular one is their fermented rice drink- it’s a great way to get in some probiotics and I found I really liked the tangy taste! Reminded me of a yogurt drink. It’s so important to promote good, healthful bacteria growth in your gut, particularly if you’ve ever taken antibiotics so check this out if you see it!

The Raw Sampler from Live Organic Food Bar. Oh lord the tostada and lasagna were amazing! Headed over there with Janet for a lovely dinner and I can’t wait to go back! Dessert was amazing too.

Vegan Nanaimo bar, specialty hot chocolate and board games? I love you Snakes and Lattes!

Hope you all enjoyed this little update :) Have a wonderful rest of your week and I swear I’ll be back with a recipe soon!

july foodie swap

Hello my fellow foodies!

Thank you all for your words of congrats and encouragement on my move to a self-hosted blog! It was daunting and frustrating and I'm still trying to figure out some bugs, but overall I'm really happy with it. I can't wait to play around with the design at some point!

Now, I know I owe you all a recipe and don’t worry- one is coming ;) But first, I’m a little late on revealing a couple foodie swaps I participated in last month! I just have to write this post now because the lovely ladies who sent me my packages put together a stellar bunch of goodies.

First off, the Foodie Pen Pal Swap!

The Lean Green Bean

For this swap I sent my package to Daneen  @ Runner and a Foodie. So pop on over there to see what I sent her!

I got my package from Devon @ deli-cute-essen. She did a phenomenal job picking out treats for me that were all vegan and gluten-free.

she certainly lived up to her blog’s name with this wrapping!

In my goodie box were:

  • Some Mary’s Crackers Ginger Snap Cookies- I’ve always wanted to try these and I really enjoyed them. Cookies you can feel good about eating :)
  • Prana Maple Almonds- she warned me these were addictive and holy man, were they ever. I just kept going back!
  • Santa Cruz Organic Root Beet- I don’t drink soda, like ever, but this root beer was amazing and all organic! It was even clear in colour, so none of that artificial colouring. It was such a nice treat.
  • Some organic vegetarian sour gummies- sour keys were one of my favourite candies as a kid
  • Chime’s Ginger Chews in the original and mint flavour- I love the peanut butter ones, so trying these flavours was great! They really help with indigestion!
  • WiTEAy Wiz Tea- this was from a local shop in Montreal and was a chamomile, sage, nettle, peppermint, lemonbalm and rosemary tea. It is so soothing! I’ll have to find something similar here because I love it.

Thanks so much Devon!

If you’d like to participate in the Foodie Pen Pal program, go to The Lean Green Blog for full info and sign-up sheet!

And now for the Vegan Food Swap, Canadian Edition

I received my package from Sarina @ Earthgiven. I have been following her blog for a while so I was really excited to see what she would send me. She certainly did not disappoint!

IMG_1739

In the package was

  • golden pea soup mix- literally all that was in here was peas and spices and it was so easy to make. Made for a very quick and comforting dinner!
  • 3 different teas: organic golden green, rooibos chai and three mint. All 3 of these were consumed in the first 2 days after receiving it- I love tea!
  • Herbamere Original seasoning. I had actually never tried these before! I loved it, added so much flavour to my dishes. I think I’ll become a regular purchaser of this.
  • Live on Chocolate Raw Caramel chocolate bar- this was so decadent and rich- you just can’t beat raw, vegan caramel! Plus it was a local product to her and I love getting to try those.
  • homemade raw nacho crackers- these were delicious and made a great snack with some raw hummus. Here's the link to her recipe if you want to make some for yourself!
  • Vega One in Vanilla Chai- I never tried this flavour so it was fun to give it a go. I can never quite tolerate a full serving of Vega in my smoothies so I divided it into 2 smoothies and it added some great flavour and nutrition!

Thanks so much Sarina! I just loved everything.

If you want to participate in the Vegan Food Swap next month, head over to MeShell in Your City for info and sign-up!

Make sure to come back tomorrow for round 2 of Healthy Vegan Fridays! Check out the details here and last week’s blog party here. The first was such a success so I can only hope this will continue to grow.

I promise the next post after HVF will be a recipe, cross my heart.

See you all tomorrow!
